Overhaul for News Site

News publisher FIN was expanding and needed web design and functionality that drew subscribers out of their emails and into their site. Our complete overhaul gave more visibility to the brand, added value for users, and helped launch new revenue streams.

Industry publishing brand FIN needed to update their premium newsletter subscription product with a more robust website and a more enhanced user experience. They needed to make big changes to retain their existing users and compete as a true digital publisher — but they were facing outdated design, multiple disjointed product offerings, various tiers of subscriptions, and a bug-prone Salesforce integration.

With ancient technology and no internal product team, they didn't know where to start. We proposed a strategy centered around a phased approach that would completely overhaul all of their existing brands, tools, and platforms with minimal disruption while delivering a giant leap forward for their users.

Our redesign and optimized platform more than doubled site traffic in less than six months.

The relaunched FIN News gave readers a faster, more focused way to read: the redesigned homepage and Daily Feed reader put the day's headlines front and center, while a self-service account portal — with discounts, promotions, and flexible payment options — made it painless to manage a subscription, bookmark a story, or start a free trial.

Automated publishing tools cut the labor of daily, weekly, and monthly publishing, freeing up the editorial team's bandwidth for creative work. We also developed a consolidated FIN News brand book that kept new web experiences consistent across products and gave the editorial team the resources to build into new verticals without jeopardizing their hard-won aesthetic.

The same phased approach that overhauled the reading experience modernized how FIN reached readers beyond their inbox — closing the gap between the daily email and the site itself, and giving the team room to grow without breaking what already worked.

Coalesce understood what we were looking for and helped translate those goals into technical execution without weighing us down with the minutiae. They were a great fit with our team.

The updated FIN News platform supports new advertising opportunities, new content verticals, and a vastly-improved user experience. Most importantly, by improving writing, editing, and publishing tools, it saves their staff the most valuable resource — time.

The FIN team knew a full rebuild would be a lot of work, but they stepped up to the task confidently. By combining the right vision, the right team, and the right effort, they ended up with a world-class digital publishing platform.
