How do you overhaul a manufacturer's 40-year-old software system in the middle of a cross-border relocation?
Parchment paper manufacturer Paperchef was struggling with an outdated system holding back every department, from accounting to shipping — old work-arounds had become status quo, with redundant work and timely data a distant dream. We audited their existing stack and built something better for a fraction of the multi-million-dollar ERP quotes they'd received, naming it Wyatt, after the infamous lawman of Tombstone.
We built Wyatt to match Paperchef's exact workflows and scale with their growth, refined against feedback from 30+ beta users at the Toronto factory. A robust API, EDI support, and integrations like AWS QuickSight gave the team real-time inventory data from any desktop, phone, or tablet.
A fancy ERP is only useful when people actually know how to use it. The eight-month design and development build culminated in a two-week test launch to find critical bugs, followed by a single-weekend implementation of the full product. We were on-site to train managers, answer questions, and wrangle the tech. It isn't easy transitioning off 40-year-old systems, but together with the Paperchef team we got every piece of inventory counted and relabeled, relocated to the right spot, and rolled over to the new system — getting orders back on the manufacturing line in less than three days.
Our lightweight, custom ERP completely replaced Paperchef's outdated sales, inventory, shipping, and tracking systems, modernizing their Toronto factory and getting their new US warehouse open in record time. The team spent 30 days on-site supporting three shifts, inventorying more than 6 million items to get the system live at launch — Wyatt now tracks more than 24 million inventory items across 7,000+ locations, running on hardware that averages $240 per station.
Wyatt is an ERP like no other. Taking inventory stock is far less labor-intensive, work orders are easier to track, and the right people always have access to the right data.
Hardware is easier to replace, too. Engineered specifically for the Paperchef Toronto team, it can do a lot of very special and specific things — but we wanted it to be able to plug in anywhere. When the company decided to move their warehouse to Nashville, Tennessee in the middle of a pandemic, the one thing they didn't have to worry about was their ERP. We helped customize the code to fit the new warehouse, and they were up and running in a matter of days. Yeehaw.
